                                               TIPS ON FIRE PREVENTION

It has been said “prevention is better than cure”.  In fire prevention, this is where everything is needed to avoid reaching the point where millions of worth of properties had gone into ashes. To implement fire prevention, there are ways of doing this. Fire prevention involves installing fire alarm systems and following proper building structure.

  • Ensure there is an accessible exit door.
  • Install fire sprinkler systems which include smoke detectors, foam based sprinkler and heat sensors. They are installed in the kitchen, bath room and living area.
  • Seek advice from fire sprinkler consultant as he may give advice and implement fire smoke detector test to ensure that each device are working. Fire sprinkler repairs may be provided free of charge depending on the company.
  • Seek immediate fire sprinkler repairs from qualified technician if the device is not working.
  • Checks LPG leaks as soon as possible. The regulator must be of high quality and free from gas leaks when installed.
  • Avoid stacking flammable materials where they may catch fire easily. This includes radiant heat and direct sunlight.
  • Always ensure that appliances using heat and electricity such as iron are of high quality. Christmas lights of poor quality and craftsmanship have been blamed for residential fires.
  • Vigilance against forgetfulness. Forgotten unplugged iron was among the cause of top fires in history similar to lighted cigarette butts tossed into a heap of dried leaves.
  • Purchase fire extinguisher and place them in accessible area. Fire extinguishers come with different chemical composition which is represented by color coding.
Water for red, cream for foam, and yellow for dry powder. Dry foam works best on electrical fires, water for wood and textiles and carbon dioxide for electrical fires.
